He's not a rookie, but he's the newest NFL star to emerge in this young season.

His name is Patrick Mahomes II and the Kansas City Chiefs QB completed 23 of 28 passes for 326 yards and six touchdowns against Pittsburgh in a 42-37 shootout Sunday afternoon. That last stat upped Mahomes' season TD total to 10, which is a new NFL record for the first two games of a season -- the record was nine held by Peyton Manning (2013), Drew Brees (2009) and Charley Johnson (1965). His six TDs were just one short of the NFL passing record for a single game.

The Longest Yard, Boogie Nights, The Cannonball Run, Deliverance, Stroker Ace, Hooper.  

Those are just some of the movies that actor Burt Reynolds helped bring to life -- and he had plenty more television roles atop those in a career that began in the late-1950s -- but he'll always be known for one iconic role. He was "The Bandit" in Smokey and The Bandit, a tale of the ultimate beer run led by Bo "Bandit" Danville and his battles with the cast of characters who tried -- but failed -- to chase him down.

That chase will continue on film forever without him, though, as Reynolds died Thursday. He was 82.

The New York Jets haven't had a lot of luck with quarterbacks in the recent past, but their newest signal-caller will already be in the record book when he sets foot on the field Monday night in Detroit.

At 21 years (and 97 days) old, Sam Darnold will be the youngest starting quarterback in the NFL since the 1970 AFL merger.

That should add a little more attention to the Rookie Cards of the No. 3 overall pick in this year's draft -- at least until the NFL realities kick in. If he does well? Well, then, look out -- because his already pricey cardboard found in 2018 football boxes will get even steeper for rarer cards and autographs.

Here's a look at the top five players on this week's Baseball America Top MLB Prospects Hot Sheet and their seasons so far. It's a little something to help those who might want to dabble with prospecting -- some basics on their baseball cards alongside a highlight line from those more scouting-minded. We may not do this every week, but we'll check in on BA's top crop from time to time for the remainder of the season.

1. Kyle Tucker, OF, Astros — Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies
Season so far: Hitting .327 with 25 doubles, 23 homers, 86 RBI and 20 SBs in 93 MiLB games (Hit .154 in 20 games in Houston.)
Baseball America’s highlight line: "Tucker has not hit as a big leaguer yet ... but every time the Astros send him back down, he goes right back to hitting. Tucker hit six home runs in a four-game stretch this week. His last on Saturday was his most dramatic, as the three-run home run in the ninth capped off a five-run, ninth-inning comeback that clinched the Pacific Coast League’s Northern Division title. Tucker now has 23 home runs and 20 steals in the PCL, giving him a 20-20 season despite the fact that he spent nearly a month in the majors."

I'd look into his 2012 USA Baseball autos from when he was with the 15U team first (bargain hunting) before chasing the first Chromes.
