Now that's some hot cardboard ... World's Hottest Peppers get their own Topps baseball card tributes
One of the unusual inclusions in packs of Topps Allen & Ginter baseball cards this year is the 15-card The World's Hottest Peppers set, which is precisely what it's name indicates. The Carolina Reaper you see here? It's apparently a modern-day Babe Ruth of heat, a Slambino of the Stomach with its Scoville Heat Units mark at 1.6 million according to its card. But that's just its average score -- apparently it can reach a world-record high of 2.2 million and it broke its own record. Meanwhile, another pepper in the set reportedly tops it but hasn't been recognized by Guiness World Records just yet. (What does really it all mean? Buzz is no expert -- I don't dare go beyond some spicy barbecue sauce -- but "pain" simply comes to mind first.)

Via @joeorlandoPSA ... This might be the coolest story of the #nsccshow so far. While live on the #GA_Collectibles show, Leighton Sheldon opened a PSA-certified 1955 Bowman baseball pack. Inside he found this beauty. It graded a PSA Mint 9. Incredible.

Like many collectors, Buzz is a fan of grading and knows that there are many reasons that collectors choose to slab cards. Sometimes it's to enhance the appeal and protect them when selling. Other times it's to protect an investment for the long-term or to protect for sentimental reasons. Or, it might be just for fun or curiosity about a potential grade.
Here's this month's grading diary here on The Buzz ...

eBay Buzz Weekly Update: Home Run Derby, Miz & Mrs. ink, The Sandlot, Ginter Rip Cards & Shohei Ohtani's new rarities
Have you seen the latest cool or interesting items on eBay? If not, you just might see some of those here every week as we're launching a weekly version of our eBay Buzz pieces that pop up from time to time. We’ll spotlight some items that have a story or just wow us with how much interest it might have — and we’re not just talking baseball cards, either.--
THE ORIGINAL HOME RUN DERBY
The Item: 1959 Home Run Derby Mark Scott card PSA 4
The Price: $400 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This week's MLB All-Star Home Run Derby is a spectacle and one of the highlights of the season since it began back in 1985. But, 59 years ago this fall, there was a different Home Run Derby -- a television series that took us to an empty ballpark and showcased a number of Hall of Famers in one-on-one battles. The show's 26 episodes were filmed in the offseason of 1959 and they first aired in 1960 with Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Al Kaline, Harmon Killebrew, Mickey Mantle, Eddie Matthews, Willie Mays, Frank Robinson and Duke Snider among the 19 stars who battled it out. The show's producer and host was Mark Scott and all of them appeared on this oversized promotional card set that was produced in 1959 and released with the show. They measure 3 1/8 by 5 1/4 inches and they have all -- except for Scott -- been reprinted in the past. (Graded is a safer buy if you're paying big money here, while the reprints are fun and affordable.) Scott died in the summer of 1960 of a heart attack at age 45 and the production company canceled future episodes the show. Is this card particularly valuable? I'm not sure, but this copy -- not a high-grade one -- is the only Scott card on eBay. Oddly, I think I'd want the host card first -- you can watch episodes on YouTube as well as on DVD if you're curious about these.

Want an Oliver Luck rookie? You'll have to hope for XFL cards
If you're a collector and you don't know the name Oliver Luck, that's OK -- you didn't miss any past Topps football cardsLuck doesn't appear on any standard cards from the past -- not even with his son who you should know (he's been pretty good) -- but he was a quarterback for the Houston Oilers for parts of four seasons in the mid-1980s. His best year was his rookie campaign in 1983 when he started six games and threw for 1,375 yards and eight touchdowns (and 13 interceptions). It was all downhill after that for this second-round pick.
But a Rookie Card? That will come only if we get new XFL cards in 2020.
What If ... The Rock had new Miami football cards from Panini?

The card you see above doesn't exist ... but what if it did?
Buzz has been wondering for some time now what kind of demand there might be if one of the biggest names in the world could be found in new packs of football cards. Armed with Photoshop, Buzz chose 2018 Panini Contenders Draft Picks, a set that includes stars from the past as well as new pros, to present the question.
Everywhere you look, it seems that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is there -- Apple and Ford commercials, countless blockbuster movies, Ballers on the small screen, on Under Armour shoes and clothing, as People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" ... we could go on and on here, but the point is that he's a global household name. For collectors, you'll find him on cardboard in a number of WWE sets, of course, and in a few non-sports releases, too, complete with some of his only certified autographed cards from when he was just getting his global-dominance career started.
But it all began long before that at the University of Miami -- and that's where his cardboard started, too.
